Previously owned by publisher Emery Reves in the 1950s, this classic car was a key mode of transportation for Churchill during his visits to Reves’ residence in the south of France. Notably, it also featured in the celebration of Churchill's golden wedding anniversary, adding to its historical significance.
The car's journey from prominence to rediscovery is as fascinating as its illustrious past. Michel Colatruglio, a real estate professional, stumbled upon this automotive gem in a garage in Glion sur Montreux, Switzerland. Remarkably, the Rolls Royce had been resting on wooden blocks, likely untouched for an estimated 35 years.
Colatruglio’s acquisition of the vehicle on May 8, 2015, marked the beginning of a painstaking restoration journey. He assembled a team of dedicated craftsmen and experts who committed themselves to reviving the Rolls-Royce. Their mission was to execute a thorough restoration while staying true to the car's original character and preserving as much as possible.
The engine, dormant for decades, was meticulously dismantled, inspected, and reassembled. Remarkably, many original components, including the pistons, were retained, though a few worn parts were replaced. The car’s interior, a slice of history in itself, still features the original handles touched by Churchill himself.
However, the restoration required stripping back the aluminium bodywork, which was then meticulously redone. This careful blend of preservation and restoration honors the vehicle's rich legacy while preparing it for a new chapter.
