That’s a lot of bodywork to make an Intrepid into something very different.
Recently turned up on Reddit, the place where the strangest cars live on forever in infamy, a 2002 Dodge Intrepid recently raised some eyebrows on Facebook Marketplace. The car is a little difficult to figure out, and we wish we could hunt down the original ad and poster to ask them more questions, but in the meantime, let’s unpack this.
According to the user, on Facebook, it was noted as being a ‘Ratmobile’, and a small plate on the nose confirms the callout. However, it’s not fashioned after a rat, and it’s not at all a rat rod, so we encourage the new owner to pick a better name for it. The fins, lights, and general ascetics are not very on brand with the rat rod niche. Really, it looks more like a third generation Plymouth Belvedere.
Regardless of what it’s supposed to be, the fenders and the rear quarter panels, and front and rear bumpers are pretty well done. They’re a little cartoonish, but the amount of work it had to of taken to fabricate this all together would take hours and some crafty thinking.
What’s pretty disappointing is, regardless of if you like it or not, the car looks unfinished, and from pillar to pillar, the car still just looks like an Intrepid or Concord. If you cropped in between the wheels, you really wouldn’t know there’s anything going on. Even the wheels just being painted hubcaps is a little off brand such an extensive build. Who knows if the builder ran out of money, or maybe their creativity in fabrication only goes so far.
