After 30 Years, Stolen Car Has Been Recovered

It looks as good as new!

Back in August of 1993 someone stole this… car from the owner, but it’s finally been found at the bottom of a river. We’d have to put on our detective hats to figure out what’s under all the mud and extensive body damage, but we’re pretty sure whatever it is this car is heading to the scrap heap sometime soon.

Learn about Joe McHale’s car collection here.

As reported by WMTV in Wisconsin, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office discovered the vehicle submerged in about 12 feet of water in the Rock River. As happens so often with cars that sink in bodies of water, it flipped upside down.

You can also see in the included video the roof of this vehicle is severely crushed. Since it was made before roof crush tests were a standard thing in the industry and it’s no a Volvo tank or some such thing (we’re pretty sure) it didn’t stand a chance of holding up to the pressure.

Investigators don’t know how long this car has been sitting underwater. Considering no dead body was found inside, we’re not sure if it’s worth even figuring that out. Yes, we know, a lot of people will say this is a case of insurance fraud, something we see every time a car is discovered years later in a body of water, but we don’t know if that’s the case here. However, evidence isn’t always necessary for commentors to declare they know that for sure.

WMTV says investigators have contacted the original owner who reported the car stolen, but it sounds like either the person doesn’t want it or it was written off as an insurance claim because the case is apparently being closed. But we know some people will say this was the perfect crime or something like that.

Now who knows what this mystery car is, other than scrap metal mixed with mud?
