A 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback, parked for decades, turns out to be a super-rare gem, one of only nine built in its configuration.
Not all abandoned classic cars are created equal. What may appear as a rusted relic could turn out to be a treasure trove of automotive history. That’s exactly what happened when John, from Lost and Found Classics, stumbled upon a 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback that had been sitting in a backyard for over 40 years.
This Mustang, once a shining example of Ford’s pony car lineup, had endured decades of exposure to the elements. Its original Acapulco Blue paint had faded into rust, and the interior—a once-stunning Parchment design—was in rough shape, missing components like the rear bench. The original big-block engine, a factory S-code 390-cubic-inch V8, had been replaced with a less desirable "truck motor."
However, the car's true significance came to light when John ordered a Marti Report, a detailed documentation service for classic Ford vehicles. The report revealed that this Fastback was not just any Mustang—it was one of only nine built with its specific drivetrain, color, and trim package combination. Originally equipped with a 390-cubic-inch FE-series V8 producing 320 horsepower and 427 lb-ft of torque, along with a Deluxe woodgrain steering wheel, factory A/C, and a radio, this Mustang was a rare gem.
Despite its dilapidated state, the rarity of the car has motivated John to undertake a full restoration. While it’s a challenging project, involving sourcing a period-correct engine and numerous original components, John is committed to bringing this Mustang back to its former glory.
The property where the Mustang was found also held other treasures, including a 1969 Q-Code Cobra Jet Mach 1 and a red-on-red 1970 H-Code Mustang, making it a paradise for vintage Ford enthusiasts.
This incredible discovery serves as a reminder that automotive history can hide in the most unexpected places. With its rarity and unique specifications, this 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback is set to become a show-stopping classic once it’s restored to factory-correct condition.
