David Newbern rescues a rough-but-cool first-gen Camaro and a vintage race car hauler from a 400-acre Mississippi treasure trove.
In a true gearhead dream come to life, David Newbern—of Newbern’s Garage fame—recently struck vintage gold in the deep South. On a recent trip to a sprawling 400-acre property in Mississippi, Newbern unearthed not only his first-ever first-gen Camaro, but also a vintage race car hauler to bring it home.
The Camaro, rough around the edges and stored away in a shed for years, is exactly what you'd expect from a dream project car: dusty, crusty, and full of potential. "It’s rough," Newbern admits, "but it’s rad." And in true car-guy fashion, he didn’t just tow the car home with any trailer. Instead, he tracked down an old-school race car hauler stashed deep in the property’s "back 40" and brought it back to life just enough to do the job.
With the help of friends and a lot of elbow grease, Newbern managed to dig the hauler out of the overgrowth, patch it up, and prepare it for its first real task in decades. The Camaro was then partially assembled on-site just to get it out of its resting place and onto the vintage trailer.
“This place is a goldmine,” Newbern says of the land, which is littered with classic cars, forgotten parts, and automotive history. A massive shoutout went to his buddy Wesley for making the connection with the property’s owner, Jimmy—who, it turns out, may have even more secrets tucked away in barns and sheds across the acreage.
The latest Newbern’s Garage video chronicles the dusty rescue with plenty of humor, nostalgia, and classic car chaos. Whether you’re into Camaros, vintage haulers, or barn finds in general, this one’s a must-watch. What happens next? Only time—and a lot of wrenching—will tell.
