The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD becomes the first American car to break the seven-minute barrier at Nürburgring, solidifying its supercar status.
Ford’s 2025 Mustang GTD has achieved a groundbreaking milestone, becoming the first car from an American brand to complete a lap of Germany’s legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in under seven minutes. With a blistering time of 6:57.685, the Mustang GTD is now officially the fifth fastest stock production sports car on the Nürburgring’s record books.
This feat, accomplished by Multimatic Motorsports driver Dirk Müller, fulfills Ford CEO Jim Farley’s promise at the Mustang GTD’s 2023 debut. “We’re proud to be the first American automaker with a car that can lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, but we aren’t satisfied,” Farley said. “We know there’s much more time to find with Mustang GTD. We’ll be back.”
The Mustang GTD is a product of relentless innovation, blending insights from the Mustang GT3 race car with cutting-edge technologies that transcend traditional racing regulations. Its 815-horsepower supercharged V8, carbon-ceramic brakes, active aerodynamics, and semi-active suspension were key in achieving this historic lap. While maintaining its stock configuration, the GTD included Nürburgring-mandated safety features like a roll cage and competition seat with a five-point harness.
A new documentary titled The Road to the Ring chronicles the journey of the Mustang GTD team as they prepared for this monumental achievement. Available on Ford.com, YouTube, and Facebook, the 13-minute film highlights the technical and emotional challenges behind developing Ford’s first Mustang supercar.
The Mustang GTD not only represents the pinnacle of Mustang performance but also proves that American engineering can rival the world’s best. With Ford promising further improvements, this record-breaking run is just the beginning for the Mustang GTD.
