A fearless builder merges a Ford Focus body with a C5 Corvette chassis, creating the unique LS-powered “Corvoucus.”
Engine swaps are one thing, but reimagining a car by combining two completely different vehicles is another level of creativity. Enter the “Corvoucus,” an LS-powered Ford Focus built on a C5 Corvette chassis—a wild custom project that has captured the attention of car enthusiasts. Created by Ryan Scheer of Scheer Performance, this unique build is a fascinating blend of Ford and Chevy engineering.
Inspired by the Global Touring Car Series' V8 Ford Focus, which features rear-wheel drive and a Ford Coyote V8, Scheer’s project took a different route. He combined the body of a 2012 Ford Focus sedan with the underpinnings and powertrain of a 2001 C5 Corvette. The result is a one-of-a-kind hybrid of American engineering, with the aggressive power of a V8 LS engine paired with the compact body of a Ford Focus.
The project began with a 2012 Ford Focus sedan, originally equipped with a modest 2.0L four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive. The donor car for the chassis and powertrain was a 2001 Chevy Corvette, featuring a 5.7L LS1 V8 engine and a six-speed manual transmission. Interestingly, the 2001 Corvette and the 2012 Focus have nearly identical wheelbase lengths (104.5 inches for the Corvette and 104.3 inches for the Focus), making the chassis swap slightly easier to execute.
Despite the unusual pairing, Scheer managed to unite the Corvette’s performance with the compact dimensions of the Focus. The LS-powered “Corvoucus” boasts a powerful rear-wheel-drive setup, enabling it to deliver the Corvette’s V8 muscle in a much smaller package. Scheer’s work didn’t just involve dropping a new engine under the hood; it required an extensive reconfiguration to accommodate the Corvette’s drivetrain within the Focus body, highlighting his technical skill and creativity.
The Corvoucus isn’t just a build—it’s a testament to the imaginative potential in the world of custom car engineering. By combining the nimble size of a Focus with the raw power of an LS engine, Scheer has created a bold and unforgettable custom car that showcases what’s possible when enthusiasts dare to break the mold.
