A modern Ford F-150 XL sleeper truck crushes a Pontiac GTO and more at New Jersey’s Island Dragway Test & Tune event.
Island Dragway, New Jersey’s last remaining dragstrip, saw a jaw-dropping display of unexpected speed when a modern Ford F-150 XL pickup dominated the quarter-mile in under 11 seconds—easily defeating a vintage Pontiac GTO and several other contenders during a recent Test & Tune event.
Captured by the ImportRace YouTube channel, the event featured a wide mix of vehicles, from Teslas to Corvettes, but it was a black, menacing Ford F-150 XL in a Regular Cab Short Bed (RCSB) setup that stole the show. Despite its unassuming looks, the truck laid down a ferocious burnout before clocking a stunning 10.96-second pass at the quarter-mile, leaving a classic Pontiac GTO trailing far behind at 14.01 seconds.
The Ford’s performance didn’t stop there. Next, it faced off against a crimson Fox Body Mustang GT, delivering another decisive victory with an 11-second run compared to the Mustang’s slower 15.36-second pass. Even when matched against a formidable opponent like the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S, a luxury sedan known for its blistering acceleration, the F-150 XL held strong, posting an 11.06-second time to the AMG’s 11.58 seconds.
What made the F-150's victories even more impressive was the driver's consistently sharp reaction times, which gave the truck an immediate advantage off the line against each challenger. With a roaring V8 under the hood and a sleeper appearance that fooled many, the pickup quickly established itself as the king of the evening at Island Dragway.
