Blending classic 4x4 charm with modern EV performance.
California-based EV conversion specialist, Kindred Motorworks, has just taken the wraps off its latest project—a stunning all-electric Ford Bronco—during Monterey Car Week 2024. Known for its dedication to blending nostalgia with modern technology, Kindred Motorworks is making waves with its third all-electric model, which promises to deliver both the charm of a classic 4x4 and the performance of a contemporary electric vehicle.
Kindred’s electric Bronco conversion is not just a cosmetic overhaul; it’s a complete reimagining of the iconic 1966-1977 Ford Bronco. The vehicle is equipped with dual electric motors that deliver a combined 402 horsepower and 492 lb-ft of torque, matching the capabilities of a traditional 5.0-liter V8 engine. The powertrain is supported by an 80 kWh battery pack that offers DC fast charging capabilities, making this classic SUV not only powerful but also convenient for modern driving needs.
“The future of Kindred Motorworks is modernized, fully electric vintage vehicles,” said Rob Howard, founder and CEO of Kindred Motorworks. “The Kindred EV Bronco ushers in this new era by delivering an incredibly user-friendly, zero-emissions experience wrapped in a timeless, iconic design. This is a thrilling moment, and there are many more to come.”
The Bronco EV conversion retains the vehicle’s original rugged aesthetic while incorporating cutting-edge technology. The chassis has been entirely redesigned, featuring independent front suspension, a multilink coil-spring rear suspension, and beefy axles with limited-slip differentials to handle the increased power. Safety and durability are also prioritized with a six-point roll cage, power-assisted rack and pinion steering, four-wheel disc brakes with regenerative braking, and an automatic electric parking brake.
The exterior of the Kindred EV Bronco is available in 11 different colors, complemented by either light cream or black accents. The vehicle’s body is meticulously finished with powder-coated framing and undercoating for long-lasting protection. For those who love the open-air experience, a bikini top comes standard, while a hardtop is available for an additional $15,000.
Inside, the Bronco EV conversion offers modern luxury with a nod to its classic roots. The cabin is adorned with leather upholstery, heated front seats, and retro-inspired LED gauges. Modern amenities include a touchscreen infotainment center, backup camera, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and even a Magsafe wireless charging dock. The vehicle also features power windows, full HVAC with air conditioning, keyless entry, and a wood floor behind the seats, making it a perfect blend of vintage charm and contemporary comfort.
Kindred Motorworks is already taking pre-orders for this electrified classic, with the base model priced at $225,000. The company, which also offers EV conversions of the Chevy 3100 pickup and Volkswagen Bus, is positioning itself as a leader in the growing market for luxury EV restomods.
