The exclusive scheme came to prominence when Tony Diglio, an active member of a Facebook group dedicated to the Demon 170, shared a communication from Dodge. This email confirmed Diglio's unique Yellow Jacket color choice for his own Demon 170. As the online conversation deepened, it emerged that this tailored paintwork would set owners back by a hefty $30,000.
Additional revelations from the Hellcat.org forum shed light on the scope and participants of the Jailbreak program. The discussion indicated that Dodge had selectively invited 20-25 individuals. These included celebrities, racers, Dodge insiders, and some loyal customers with a significant purchase history spanning a decade. The process to claim these colors was fascinating. The chosen individuals received overnight shipments of the 40 paint samples. The first to email their choice to Dodge secured that particular shade. Dodge pledged to produce only a single car in each color, rendering each a true "1 of 1" edition.
A nostalgic choice for Diglio, he opted for Yellow Jacket due to his ownership of a 2018 Challenger SRT Demon in the same shade. Notably, while the 2018 edition came without any extra charge for the Yellow Jacket shade, the exclusivity now attached to the Demon 170 means that the price tag for special colors, like most things in the auto world, has risen exponentially.
When probed about the hefty price tag for the exclusive paint, Dodge explained, "The Jailbreak 170 commemorates the ultimate 'Last Call' Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, and is a gesture towards our muscle car devotees. This rare paint option serves as an acknowledgment of their brand loyalty and significant purchase history."
