Dismantled 1969 Mustang in Oklahoma Yard Hides Rare Factory "Hot Pink" Heritage

Among the high-dollar restorations and rare muscle cars inside Oklahoma’s Billups Classic Cars, an overlooked treasure sits in the weeds just beyond the shop's doors: a 1969 Ford Mustang fastback ordered in a rare factory Hot Pink paint, one of just five built in that configuration, according to a Marti Report.

Classic car expert Dennis Collins recently visited the facility—known for restoring icons like the “Green Hornet” and Shelby prototypes—to deliver a long-awaited 1967 Shelby GT350 drag car. But during his visit, a blink-and-you-miss-it moment at the 15:50 mark of his video revealed a dismantled Mustang stripped to its skeleton, yet still boasting its original, faded pink hue.

Ford’s special-order pink paint varied in name over the years—Dusk Rose, Passionate Pink, and later, Hot Pink in 1969—but it was never part of the mainstream catalog. Often nicknamed "Playboy Pink" by enthusiasts, the color remains one of the rarest finishes in Mustang history. Whether this example was one of the rumored promotional cars linked to the Playboy brand remains unconfirmed.

While its body tells a rare tale, the car’s underwhelming powertrain—a two-barrel 351 Windsor V8 rated at 250 horsepower—has kept it off the restoration docket, despite its significance. In a market driven by high-performance options, this Mustang’s modest specs haven’t justified the investment for many collectors.

But for purists and preservationists, its unique color and documented build make a compelling case for restoration. For now, the fastback waits outside the shop—neglected but not forgotten.

With interest in rare factory color Mustangs on the rise, the hope is this Hot Pink gem will one day return to the road, reclaiming its rightful place in Mustang history.
