That’s all they could muster?
To say GM has been making a huge deal out of the new C8 Corvette Z06 would be one of the biggest understatements. Just about every automotive publication is tripping over themselves to slobber over the thing like it’s the greatest sports car ever made. We like the flat plane-crank V8 and some other things about the C8 Z06, but the jury is out on just how this thing will measure up over all. However, a leak of info gives us some disappointing quarter mile performance which makes us really wonder.

A user on Corvette Forum posted a picture of a placard which seems to show the performance specs for the C8 Z06. We already know about the claimed 0-60 time of 2.6 seconds, but displayed right below that is the quarter mile time of 10.6 seconds.
Some people are just going to get all excited because they’ve watched the Fast and Furious one too many times (which might be one). Yeah, yeah, it’s a 10-second car, big deal. As the user who posted this picture notes, the C7 ZR1 does the quarter mile in 10.6 seconds as well. Just like us, he was hoping for at least a few tenths of a second quicker since GM has been selling the mid-engine platform as superior in every way.
Don’t get us wrong, 10.6 seconds is impressive, but this still feels like a letdown. Is GM holding back some to make some other product look better when it releases? There should be a ZR1 coming later as well as the much-rumored E-Ray hybrid C8, so is this an attempt to not overshadow one of those? We honestly don’t know, but it sure makes you wonder.
Another theory being thrown around on the forum is that GM is purposely underrating performance like what BMW famously does. It’s possible, but we just won’t know until people have it in the real world and we see what it can do on the track.
