But did he really get away?
Some gearheads get a kick out of smoking cops with their modified ride, like it’s a victory of sorts. Maybe they’re carrying on the tradition of moonshine runners who evolved into NASCAR racers or it’s just something in their DNA. But we have a prime example of this behavior right here and now in the form of a C7 Corvette running from the law.

In a video posted to Instagram by lsx.videos, we see what appears to be dashcam footage from a police car as it pulls up behind a black C7 Corvette on the highway. The American sports car slows down as the officer approaches, then once the emergency lights are activated the Chevy just takes off.
Obviously, the cop wasn’t prepared for this response, although we don’t know why. Or maybe he just figured trying to chase a Corvette was futile, which it would’ve been. Even if he were all keyed up and punched it as soon as the C7 driver dropped the hammer, there’s no way he would’ve kept up for even a second.
What people are really squealing about online is how the C7 Corvette driver flips off the lights after he gets far enough ahead. Since it’s a black car on a dark stretch of highway and there isn’t really anyone else around, the Chevy essentially disappears into the night. We don’t recommend doing this, but we’ve seen this technique used by others before.
Even though this guy “got away” he probably is going to get a nice visit from some officers later. After all, before he dropped the hammer and showed the cop who’s boss, the dashcam got a nice, long, and up-close look at his license plate. Assuming he isn’t running a fake tag, which isn’t a good idea, police know where he lives and who he is. So you can run but a fast car doesn’t mean you can hide from the long arm of the law.
