This took place at the New York Charity Gala.
The Ferrari Foundation recently garnered $7 million for its charitable endeavors at a gala and auction, where an exquisite scale model of the Tailor Made 812 Competizione, crafted by the artisans at Amalgam Collection, was purchased for a staggering $90,000.
Since 1998, Ferrari and Amalgam Collection have collaborated to produce some of the most detailed and stunning scale models of Ferrari’s renowned cars. This alliance culminated last week when both a life-sized Tailor Made 812 Competizione and its scale replica were auctioned off at the Ferrari Gala Dinner and Auction. While the full-sized V-12 vehicle secured over $5 million, its miniaturized counterpart fetched the aforementioned $90,000.
The Tailor Made 812 Competizione is a one-of-a-kind testament to Ferrari's design heritage, especially the contributions of chief design officer Flavio Manzoni. It flaunts a bright yellow color reminiscent of Ferrari designers' favored sketch paper, accentuated with bespoke Nero DS Sketch details, underscoring key bodywork aspects. This design motif extends seamlessly into the car’s interior, deviating notably from typical Ferrari special projects. Given the 812 Competizione’s limited run of just 999 units, it's unsurprising it commanded such a significant auction price.
Constructed manually in the Amalgam workshop, the 1:8 scale model, spanning 23 inches and comprising 651 pieces, mirrors the original car's unique aesthetic. With actual CAD data from Ferrari at their disposal, the Amalgam team ensured an impeccable recreation. From authentic materials to intricate dashboard details, the model boasts unparalleled precision. Even its matte Giallo Tristrato paint is genuine, formulated specifically to maintain accuracy on the model's diminutive panels, paralleled by the Nero DS Sketch accents.
Though the identity of the model’s buyer remains undisclosed, speculation suggests the Tailor Made’s new custodian might have shown interest.
Sandy Copeman, Amalgam’s Director of Brand, eloquently summarized the collaboration: “The passion and artistry Ferrari invests in crafting the world's most thrilling cars inspire an equal fervor in the Amalgam team to produce models worthy of being displayed alongside Maranello's engineered masterpieces.”
Proceeds from the auction will bolster Ferrari Foundation's commitment to education-focused charitable activities.
