First things first, this 1976 Pontiac Trans Am is just one of 110 with the rare Hurst T-top package. It is also a Y82 Special Edition Trans Am (L75). There are less than 45 known to still exist in this configuration. The Y82/Y84 Special Edition models made their debut as a limited run of Pontiac Motor Division 50th anniversary package cars. The Starlite black exterior was contrasted with gold pin stripes that started at the front bumper and wrapped around the body via the wheel openings, finally finishing up at the rear bumper. Other gold exterior accents included the iconic hood bird decal, headlamp bezels, grille, fascia-mounted Firebird crest, and honeycomb wheels. This example also came equipped with the highly desirable black chrome exhaust tips that add some oomph to the overall appearance. It’s powered by a numbers-matching 455 cubic-inch V8 engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission.
The example you see here is loaded with all the available options. These include: power steering, power brakes, power locks, power windows, and rear window defrost. It also comes with factory air conditioning and an AM/FM eight-track radio (which comes with a Waylon Jennings cassette tape). This Trans Am Y82 Special Edition is registered with the Pontiac Historical Society. The sale of this vehicle includes the Pontiac Motor Division build sheet, along with other documentation of its rarity. The turning point for the late 1970's Trans Am's took place in 1976, so don’t miss your chance to own an important and iconic piece of American auto history.
