This truck hauls way more than cargo!

The back-and-forth competition between Ford and Chevrolet has resulted in some entertaining battles over the years, and that was especially true in the early 1990s. In response to the big-block-powered Chevrolet 454SS pickup truck, Ford's Special Vehicle Team (or SVT) developed the F-150 SVT Lightning. Over the three-year run of the first-gen Lightning, Ford made fewer than 12,000 of these sport trucks were built, and GAA Classic Cars will have an extremely clean and almost-stock version of this truck listed among its 650-vehicle auction in July.

Starting life as a typical regular cab F-150, the SVT Lightning added a more potent version of Ford's 5.8-liter V-8 with high-performance GT40 heads and headers that increased the engine's output to 240 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque–that's the same horsepower and 55 more lb-ft than the 1994 Ford Mustang Cobra. The truck was also given Monroe Formula GP shocks, a limited-slip differential, thicker stabilizer bars and wider aluminum tires wrapped in Firestone Firehawk GTA tires. According to Ford, these enhancements gave the SVT Lightning quite impressive performance abilities including a 0-60 time of 7.2 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 15.6 seconds at 87.4 mph; impressive stats for its day!

Of the 4,007 SVT Lightnings that were produced in 1994, and this is one of 1,382 that came in red. The interior is just as clean sporting the Lightning's exclusive perforated leather steering wheel, while the heavily bolstered sport bucket seats and the wide center console do as much as they can to separate the Lightning from your run-of-the-mill F-150 work truck.
