This Cobra is a few different kinds of unique, and the best part about this car is that you can bring it home!
In September of 1961, Carroll Shelby wrote a letter to AC Cars requesting a Cobra specially built to accept a V8 engine, to which they agreed. Chevrolet, not wanting any competition for the Corvette refused to provide Shelby with an engine for the Cobra, but Ford, longing for a competitor to the Corvette of their own, jumped on the idea. Although Ford and Shelby discontinued importing the roadsters in 1967, this epic series of events led to the creation of the legendary 427 powered Cobra.
Backdraft Racing was founded in January of 2001 by world champion auto racers, Tony Marten and Reg Dodd. The company has established itself as the leader in producing high quality replicas and custom built roadsters.
All of their cars feature a hand laid fiberglass body with strategic reinforcement riding on a 2” by 4” rectangular steel ladder style frame with a front crush zone. Their cars are not kit cars but high quality factory built replicas that can be fitted with any number of popular drive train combinations.
A specialist in the classic collector market, Central Classic Cars of Sylvania, Ohio is offering for sale this rare and desirable 1965 Backdraft Cobra RT3 Edition. While a true tribute to the original, this Cobra replica features modern underpinnings and drivetrain to achieve an up to date feel while retaining the rawness of the original.
