A meticulously restored 1975 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale, one of fewer than 500 produced, headlines Broad Arrow’s Amelia Auction.
Broad Arrow’s Amelia Auction 2025 is set to showcase an extraordinary example of rallying heritage: a 1975 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale. With its striking Azzurro livery and a fascinating history, this rare machine offers a glimpse into the golden era of rally motorsport while benefiting a charitable cause.
The Lancia Stratos HF, designed by Bertone and powered by Ferrari’s 2.4-liter Dino V6 engine, was a groundbreaking rally car that dominated the World Rally Championship from 1974 to 1976. Homologation regulations required Lancia to produce approximately 500 road-going variants, known as the HF Stradale. This example is one of fewer than 500 built and features the same dramatic styling and competition pedigree as its rally-winning counterparts.
A Rich Provenance
Chassis No. 829AR0 001948, with body number 91, was completed on May 22, 1975, as a German-market car. Its early history includes ownership by Herbert Engel before spending 27 years in Peter Kaus's prestigious Rosso Bianco Collection. After leaving the collection in 2008, it passed through notable custodians such as Evert Louwman and Phil Toledano.
During Toledano’s ownership, the Stratos underwent a meticulous two-year restoration, returning it to its factory Azzurro finish. The project included an interior refurbishment, mechanical overhaul, and installation of a new wiring harness to enhance reliability. The car has since been featured in events like the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance and the Copperstate 1000.
Offered for a Cause
The current owner acquired the Stratos in 2017 and has preserved it within a prominent collection of European sports cars. Proceeds from its sale will support The Footprints Foundation's Driven to Care Legacy Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships and educational experiences for students pursuing careers in the automotive industry.
An Opportunity to Own History
This Lancia Stratos HF Stradale is a perfect blend of competition heritage and road-going usability, making it an ideal candidate for display, vintage rallying, or as a centerpiece in a significant collection. With its provenance, restoration quality, and historical significance, it represents a rare opportunity to own one of Lancia’s most iconic motorsport creations while contributing to a meaningful cause.
For enthusiasts and collectors, this remarkable Stratos embodies the pinnacle of Italian automotive engineering and rally history, standing as a testament to the artistry and innovation of its era.
