After four decades in a French barn, this rare classic Jag will need some major help to restore it to its former glory.
For the price of £240,000 ($331,680 USD), this very rusty, very rare classic Jaguar barn find found a new owner recently. Amazingly, this far surpasses the pre-auction estimate of £200k, which is hard to wrap your mind around until you understand the rarity of the car. While it’s going to take quite a bit of money and time to restore, it certainly can be done.

World renowned Italian coach builder, Ghia, received the 1955 Jaguar XK140 to build a chic body on the British chassis. This is one of only four XK140s which were rebodied by the Turin company. It was also the same car that was on display at the 1956 Paris Motor Show, before being bought by a Frenchman.
Former President of the French Jaguar Drivers' Club, the late Roland Urban, bought this Jaguar in 1969, when he put a 3.8-liter engine in it and raced it in rallies for the next decade; it would go on to win fast circuit races, thanks to the lightweight body.
In 1979, the Jaguar was parked in anticipation of a restoration that would never happen. The classic British car would sit for the next four decades, and the family of Mr. Urban decided it was time to sell it.
The cost of restoration is estimated to be in between $130k to around $200k. That would put the total cost of the car into the $500k range, which brings up the interesting discussion of how to value something like this. We have put eyes on two others, in picture form, taken at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2008 and Concours d'Elegance Paleis het Loo, but the 4th could be in a private collection and not show, or there could only be 3, which is a theory that was floated before.
