Owned by the same person for 31 years, this well maintained 1988 911 Carrera has done the equivalent of circling the globe 10 times.
If you’re someone who has owned a string of cars, you’ll know all about the bonds you form with your pride and joy. Some attachments are stronger than others, and that’s what leads you to not being able to part with a particular car. This 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupé has logged just under 270,000 miles, all by its original owner!
Many people are spellbound by Porsche 911s, but the owner of this now classic Carrera must truly adore his car. To keep a car for over three decades and drive it the equivalent of 10 times around the world is the ultimate seal of approval from a clearly contented customer. Listed by a dealer on Bring a Trailer on behalf of the owner, it’s now time for the pair to part ways.
For a car with such high mileage, this traditional Guards Red 911 is actually in pretty good condition. There are a few age related blemishes such as some peeling clear coat, chips and marks on the spoiler, and a dent is present on the rear valance — nothing some light restoration couldn’t fix.
It’s a handsome thing with factory fitted front and rear spoiler, not to mention those distinctive 16-inch Fuchs alloy wheels. For a car used as extensively as this, the interior has proven resilient to wear with just a few cracks on the aged vinyl dashboard.
The leather seats have put up a good fight and look great with the accompanying red piping, although they appear in such good condition we think they might have been reupholstered at some point over the past 31 years.
The odometer might read 269,839 miles but extensive history and paperwork paints a picture of a car that has been meticulously maintained. The most significant work done to the car was an engine replacement back in 2003 but, according to the advert, ‘The seller is happy to discuss backdating or Safari-style conversions for the buyer.’
Its current 3.2-litre 930/25 engine received a top-end rebuild with replacement pistons and cylinders at 186,000 miles. Later in 2007/08 the fuel injector lines and alternator were replaced, followed by a new battery and ignition service in 2016/2017. The valves have also received some attention with adjustments made less than 10,000 miles ago.
This incredible Porsche 911 comes complete with its original US window sticker and history files that spans from 1988 to 2017. We hope that its next owner continues the journey of this heroic Carrera and clocks another 270,000 miles.
