Some guys bolt an aluminum rear wing on their Mustang to look like they go to the track. When that car is parked at the local Denny’s and the interior is completely stock, you know the bolt-on is a ridiculous pretense. This 2008 Ford Mustang FR500S is a different beast entirely. Just one hot lap on your local track and you’ll immediately know this is one finely-tuned, serious racer.
First of all, that’s not a Coyote under the hood. Instead, this pony uses a new Ford Performance 5.2-liter Aluminator V8. The crate engine has been designed to be a real contender, producing 580 horsepower and 445 lb.-ft. of torque right out of the box. But it doesn’t stop there, since the engine was sent to Roush Yates Racing for strategic upgrades. To handle all the extra horsepower, a Tremor 6-speed manual transmission is mated to the engine. An AIM Data Logger, Brembo brakes, and JRI coil overs are also included. For good measure, this car also comes with the original 4.6-liter Ford Racing factory-sealed motor.
This car wears all the equipment you’d expect from a true racer. Aside from the sponsor logos, it has a new front splitter, two sets of wheels (one black, one polished), a Be Cool system, extra plexiglass rear window, and more. This isn’t what you take for a grocery run, but instead is a car that will pass the regulations for pretty much any track.
This car was built to compete in the Miller Mustang Challenge Series, meaning it’s a serious racer. Only 77 Ford Mustang FR500S models were built, so you’re not exactly going to stumble across another one for sale anytime soon.
