The museum celebrates 25 years with star cars from Back to the Future, Iron Man, and Halo
The Petersen Automotive Museum always features exciting exhibits that you’ll rarely find elsewhere, but it’s pushing the boat out for its 25th anniversary year. A new collection of cars with the theme ‘Hollywood Dream Machines: Vehicles of Science Fiction and Fantasy’ will be on display as of this Saturday, and promises to be quite the spectacle.
Opening in just two days on May 4 2019, the display is sure to blow the mind of any sci-fi fan. In a collaboration with the Comic-Con Museum, Audi, and Microsoft, a collection of cars, costumes, blueprints and props will be on show. It will incorporate a broad spectrum of entertainment ranging from Hollywood film car to landmark video game vehicles.
Some of the star cars on display include the 2035 Audi RSQ from ‘I-Robot’, the iconic ‘Back to the Future’ DeLorean, Bumblebee from ‘Transformers’, various Batmobiles, and the Warthog from the hit video game series ‘Halo’ to name just a few. In total there will be 40 silver screen vehicles on display for visitors to enjoy.
Petersen Automotive Museum Executive Director Terry L. Karges said: ‘The exhibit is an ode to the industry that Los Angeles was built upon. We can’t wait to explore the fantasy and fictional concepts behind these extraordinary vehicles with the world.’ 20 of the film industry's greatest cult classics will direct the theme, along with 40 of their vehicles to match.
For those wanting to add a new dimension to this unique event, a VIP is offered. For those fortunate clients, the Drago brothers will be providing appetisers to add a smattering of luxury to the experience whilst you peruse the offerings, including some signature cocktails. Ambience will be taken care of by renowned DJ Sam Kofa.
The Petersen Automotive Museum and Microsoft are taking this exhibit one step further with the help of virtual reality. Microsoft HoloLens VR headsets will allow users to experience the Back to the Future time machine and Halo Warthog in a unique interactive environment. This is pretty advanced technology being used in a whole new way. Will this be the future of museums in years to come?
The exhibit will host an open reception for VIPs on May 4 with entertainment, food, and cocktails. These VIP ticket holders will also be given access to the museum before everyone else, being given a ‘curator-led hard-hat tour.’
The 'Hollywood Dream Machines: Vehicles of Science Fiction' and Fantasy exhibit runs from May 4 2019 to March 15 2020, so you’ve got plenty of time to visit.
