Porsche fans will absolutely love watching the video below as a Porsche 911 (991) GT2 RS spanks several hypercars in drag races. This footage was shot at the Supercar Owners Circle SOC 2019 event, which was held at the Ambri airport in Quinto, Switzerland. To see this car in action is to really understand just how quick the 991 GT2 RS really is.
You can see this Porsche just obliterate a Bugatti Veyron, McLaren P1, Pagani Huayra, Mercedes-AMG GT R, and a Koenigsegg Regera, among other notable hypercars. These aren’t vehicles which you would think are performance slouches, especially when it comes to straight-line acceleration. In other words, the 911 GT2 RS is impressive enough to take down some absolutely monstrous cars.
The thing is, most of these races aren’t even close. The Porsche is absolutely killing the competition with big leads, like it’s not even breaking a sweat. Sure, some of the other drivers might not have the best launches, but that fact the 911 GT2 RS keeps winning big surely counts for something.
Keep in mind that in US spec, the Porsche 991 GT2 RS has a 3.8-liter flat-six engine with 700-horsepower and 553 lb.-ft. of torque on tap. And while manual transmissions are great, it uses a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic to flawless transmit all that power to the rear wheels. Car and Driver was able to push one from 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds and demolish the quarter mile in 10.3 seconds at 140 mph, using Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
Not only is the current 911 GT2 RS quick, it handles like a champ. Made to really stick even the trickiest of chicanes, this is the car you want to go do hot laps with. In the hands of an experienced driver it will carve up any course with absolute ferocity. To not call this a supercar is foolish, and considering the performance you just saw, it might even qualify as a hypercar, or at least can push them around.
