Only 1 of 65 to feature the 24-gallon fuel tank.
GAA Classic Car Auctions is sending this 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Big Tank across the auction block next month. The factory original big tank car is part of the Davis Collection - Part III. This classic 'Vette is rare considering that only 246 of these examples were given RPO 687 heavy duty brakes and special steering, but this is just one of 65 that also came with the 24-gallon fuel tank. This car is scheduled to hit the auction stage next month on Saturday, February 28th, 2020.
Although this C1 is highly original, it was given a repaint in its original factory Roman Red hue. The sea of red continues on throughout the interior that appears as if it has never been sat in. Breaking up the red inside the car are chrome accents that add to its vintage hot rod appeal.
Under the hood is a matching-numbers small block 327cui V8 engine topped with fuel injection and given an output of 360-horsepower. A 4-speed manual transmission shifts power down to the rear wheels. The 1962 Corvette was also the final year of the generation and was the last year available with a solid axle. The rare RPO 687 package offered on this classic beauty offered the heavy-duty brakes and special steering that refined over previous years, and it was given sturdier springs and firmer shock absorbers, air scoops and deflectors for the front brakes, rear brake scoops, finned cast iron drums with internal cooling fans, and a quick steering adapter.
This one-owner beauty has the the title in the original owner's name, who also is available to document the car. This car was a factory-born racer that could compete with SCACA right off the factory assembly line.
So, if this rare '62 Chevy Corvette Big Tank is right up your alley, register to bid with GAA Classic Car Auctions to get this beauty settled in nicely into your garage or collection. It is scheduled to cross the auction block on Saturday, February 28th. If anything else on the auction docket catches your eye, the entire auction runs the weekend of February 27th-29th, 2020.
