What would you do with this power?
Just about everyone has fantasized about rolling around in a vintage Volkswagen Type 2. That fantasy usually comes apart in a hurry once the reality of soaring prices for these vehicles comes crashing down. That was, until Ohio-based Classic Steel Body recently announced the upcoming release of the Bus Body Skeleton. You get a body shell, making creating your own VW Bus build so much easier.
As you can see from the picture, you get the body structure of a Volkswagen Type 2. Classic Steel Body says it will also sell and even install the remainder of the panels for the body, whichever ones you might need. This is a huge help whether you have a Bus body that’s been eaten through by rust or you have a mad scientist project that would work with this body.
The Bus Body Skeleton can be ordered for 1955 to 1959, 1960, 1961 to 1962, 1963, and 1964 to 1967 model years. You can get either the Bus body or a single cab with truck bed. If you can get everything to line up, that might allow creative owners to switch from one to the other, if they so choose.
Classic Steel Body is taking pre-orders right now. You must put down a $1,000 deposit for the Bus Body Skeleton. Prices are $17,000 for Bus bodies or $15,000 for a single-cab truck body. Individual panels and other components run the range, like $299.95 for the front windshield frame for 1955 to 1967 models to $799.95 for the front panel on 1963 to 1967 Type 2s. The company anticipates a wave of orders at first, so you might be waiting for a bit to get your body skeleton and panels.
According to Classic Steel Body, deliveries are set to begin in late 2019 or early 2020. The sooner you reserve yours, the less time you’ll have to wait.
