In Spinnaker White, no less.
Atlantic Motor Group is offering up this beautiful 1973 Plymouth Duster in Spinnaker White. By definition, a spinnaker is a large triangular sail carried by a yacht as a headsail when running before the wind. The Duster coupe followed the design changes on the Plymouth Valiant with a sporty body style to attract consumers. It was built on the Valiant platform, sharing the same front end sheet metal, but with a different design from the cowl back. For the 1973 model year, the Plymouth Duster received a new hood, grille, bumpers, front fenders, and taillights.
This Spinnaker White Duster has 64,000 original miles on the odometer and looks as good as new. It’s in immaculate condition; the previous owner clearly gave it the TLC it deserves and then some. The semi-fastback two-door coupe is powered by a 340 V8 gasoline engine mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. The black vinyl interior is spotless and features bucket style seating for that extra-sporty feel.
Single-piston slider-type disc brakes were introduced for the 1973 model-year Duster to replace the Kelsey Hayes four-piston calipers. The disc brake-equipped vehicles also received the more-common 5 x 4.5-inch bolt pattern. All 340 engine models also received the more simplified 8.25-inch rear axle assembly with wheel bearings riding directly on the axle shaft. At this time, electronic ignitions became standard all across the board for the entire lineup.
To this day, the Duster logo is still one of the most easily detectable automobile logos. Chrysler employee Thomas Bertsch created the original “twister” logo and font that was associated with the Plymouth Duster. Throughout the years, several graphics were used between the different trim packages available.
If you snooze, you lose. So, do not miss your chance to grab this pristine example of the sporty fastback Plymouth Duster. It may not dominate a discussion about the muscle cars of yesteryear, but it will steal the spotlight when you get it on the road – that’s for sure!
