Celebrating 50-years of racing, the Sonoma Raceway is hosting a special event in 2019.
From May 30th to June 2nd, Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California will be host to the first ever Sonoma Speed Festival. This exclusive event features ten invited race groups, spanning the history of motorsports from the Brass Era to the modern age, competing on track. Interactive displays will also be on hand, so this is a great event for both the casual, and hardcore automotive enthusiast.
Vehicle highlights set for the Raceway will include the Porsche 917K, Ferrari 250 GTO and even the Lotus 77 Formula 1 car (John Player Special Mk.II). Overall, around 220 vehicles will be in attendance, with the event organizers promising ‘more significant’ attendee announcements as the date for the event draws closer.
The timing of the event also runs alongside the 50th anniversary of the Sonoma Raceway in 2019. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the milestone, and the Historic Trans Am racing classic will be especially symbolic of the anniversary as the track hosted the class back in 1969.
As it originally did, this class will give space to cars like the Ford Mustangs, Chevy Camaros, and AMC Javelins to compete against each other. This is one of nine other racing classes of the invited groups.
“The team organizing this event have attended the best motoring events in the world and want to bring that world-class level of execution and experience to one of the best race tracks in North America,” said Ryan R. Turri, General Manager of the Sonoma Speed Festival.
“We’ve brought in teams that have worked on the most highly regarded automotive events and museums across the globe. This is an opportunity to see the most significant motorsports icons in action while enjoying the luxuries and comfort of a European-style motoring event.”
The scenic rolling hills of the Sonoma Raceway will make for a great backdrop of the track with dramatic corners to challenge the drivers.
