Only 607 miles have been clocked since its total transformation.
Built in 2012 by Mongoose Motorsports, the owner’s goal for the build was to recreate a similar appearance to cars that raced in the SCCA in the mid-70s. Never raced, this Corvette has been driven just 607 miles on the street. County Corvette is pleased to offer the opportunity to own this stunning example of a custom Mongoose-built 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport.
With a goal to replicate the Penske Sunoco-era GS convertible colors that ran in Sebring in 1966, this '63 Corvette has a stunning exterior painted in a pre-1970 Sunoco Blue. The body sits on a tube frame with C4 components such as the suspension with coil overs, power rack and pinion, and standard brakes in the front and back. To shave weight, aluminum billet door hinges replace the stock versions and save ten pounds, and the door handles are from a stock '63 Chevy truck and are inset for air flow. That might not seem like much, but every little thing adds up. This custom classic Vette weighs 1,000 lbs. less than your average C4 Corvette. The headlights partially hide behind Lexan glass.
Wheels of choice are 15-inch staggered PSE (Phil Schmidt Engineering) GS replicas (15x8 with a 4-inch offset on the front, 15x10 with a 6-inch offset out back), with the rears wrapped with Mickey Thompson radials. The front and rear track were both narrowed by two-inches over a standard C4 to fit the offset wheels.
Powering this custom classic is a 2002-era factory ZL1 454cui V8 engine with an output of 510-horsepower and 500 lb/ft of torque, and it is one of 200 built for that model year. A road race version 5-speed Tremec transmission with a .82 fifth gear sends power down to the rear wheels and is aided by a Hydraulic throw out bearing with a CenterForce flywheel and clutch assembly. Hillborn EFI was installed by Mongoose and set up by Andy Starr, the local EFI representative for Hillborn. A Harrison engine oil cooler from the '70s has been rebuilt and mounted in front of the radiator. Hedman side pipe headers complete with custom elbows and side pipes were built by Mongoose and come with spiral mufflers. A power booster is mounted under the left front fender allowing plenty of braking power.
Behind the doors of this custom ‘Vette include gray suede upholstery covering lightweight fixed seats along with a sea of gray carpeting. The dashboard is from Classic Custom Design and is equipped with a 200-mph speedometer. Monitor vital signs with engine oil temperature, rear temperature, and fuel gauges also embedded in the center dash. A tilt steering column can be adjusted as needed.
County Corvette has serviced and maintained this gem since it was built for the original owner, and it runs strong. If this beauty is the apple of your eye, then contact them today! The car is listed at $129,900, but feel free to make an offer here.
