This was a thrill to watch cross the auction block!
The 1966 Chevrolet Corvette is an iconic body style from one of the most sought after generations of the Corvette. Anytime a C2 Vette is up for grabs, a bidding frenzy tends to follow. When one of those examples has something unique about it, it becomes an even more desirable car to add to a collection. Such is the case with this show stopping 1966 Corvette ‘Big Tank’ optioned beauty that was auctioned off by GAA Classic Car Auction over the weekend for $165,000.
The Big Tank Corvette was on display when the doors opened for the July 2019 GAA auction as a featured lot for all to see when they first step inside the building. Originally sold in Higgins, Texas, This blue coupe is one of only 66 ever produced in 1966 with the rare N03, 36 gallon gas tank option. Not only is a 36 gallon tank on a sports car an oddity, but having any little low production option on the car is going to make it more interesting to the collector.

Otherwise, the Corvette underwent a complete body-off restoration, and it’s only been drive 56 miles since - so this Vette has a lot of road and show time left in it before needing anything else. The power steering and power brakes makes it an easy car to drive. It also rides on a set of Goldline tires.
More importantly, what moves the tires is a numbers matching 427 cubic inch engine that’s rated at 390-horsepower. Backing the big engine is a four-speed manual transmission that feeds into a positive traction rearend with 4.11:1 gearing.
So everything put together, the desirability of this body style, the rarity of the big tank option, the massive 427 engine, and fresh restoration means this car was read for a new home when it went under the hammer on Saturday.
