Make wood paneling cool again.
While not everyone has caught the off-road classic vehicle bug yet, it’s an increasing trend which you could profit from big time. A great way to get onboard would be to grab this 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer selling for $23,900. That’s not a huge investment up front, but what you get is an exceptionally clean and well-sorted collectible four-wheel-drive machine.
A selective restoration performed in Maryland after this Jeep lived the good life in Georgia and South Carolina is why it looks so nice. As you can clearly see, the white paint shines up wonderfully, thanks to a repaint in 2012, but so do those woodgrain panels down each side. Those are something which should be sold on new Jeeps but aren’t, so they’re genuine vintage touches.
While the exterior looks completely stock, there is a nice 4-inch spring lift from Rusty’s Off Road. That modification allows this rig to ride on 31-inch BFF tires for a tough look and better ground clearance. In other words, this is a fun vehicle to collect since you can most definitely take it on trails.
The interior looks just as good as the exterior with dark brown and light woodgrain accents. Not only was the leather upholstery redone on the front seats, the owner went ahead and had seat warmers installed so you don’t have to suffer in the winter. New carpeting, headliner, and door panels also make the space really shine.
You might be worried about grabbing such an old Jeep, but the previous owner went all-out on the mechanicals to ensure this is a reliable ride. Among the work performed was a rebuild on the AMC 360ci V8 Jasper, so the engine runs nice and smooth. In the process an aluminum intake, Edelbrock carb, alternator, starter, power steering pump, radiator, and ignition were all installed. The 727 Transmission was also rebuilt. Many other items have been recently addressed like U-joints, brakes, and a rear axle bearing.
With Fiat Chrysler working on an updated Jeep Grand Wagoneer, now is the perfect time to invest in such a vehicle. No doubt, once the new generation launches, interest in classic models will shoot way up. You can get ahead of the curve by grabbing this super clean example now.
