A limited-edition model that has had only one owner since new.
The beauty you see here is a 1978 Datsun 280Z Black Pearl Edition that represents the best of the two-seater Z-cars that transformed the automotive world in the ‘70s. As the later models prove, the Z will always have a place in the hearts and garages of car enthusiasts. That’s why Streetside Classics is pleased to announce this early 280Z example for your consideration. It’s currently up for sale at a price of $19,995, and you can make an offer on the car right here.
This Z is everything you could want in a car: it’s lightweight, fast, agile, and affordable. It was treated to a comprehensive restoration with nice paint and trim that gave this 35-year-old sports car a brand-look appearance. Limited-edition vehicles such as this one were often reserved for car events and sunny weekend days, as is true for this one. The car shows no bumps and bruises associated with the daily grind of everyday driving and certainly appears as though it lived most of its life someplace dry and warm. The chrome remains bright, and the bumpers are in good shape. The Black Pearl model received special red and silver graphics that were replaced when the car was repainted a few years back.
The Z is also well known for its appealing interior, which is sporty and functional all the same. It features black bucket seats with thicker bolsters than most and pleated upholstery. All of these parts remain in great condition and show only very minor signs of usage since the restoration. The dashboard houses easy-to-read instruments, with each one sitting in its own pod. It also includes a row of auxiliary gauges in the center. These Z cars were top-of-the-line machines by 1978, and this one comes with factory air conditioning, an automatic transmission, and an updated Sony AM/FM/CD stereo system. Under the rear hatch, you’ll find a massive trunk area with carpeting that shows almost no wear or fading, thanks to the window slats in the back.
This bad boy is powered by an L28E 2.8-liter inline-six motor that is torquey, yet eager to rev. It has the same rich, deep wail that is associated with big-horsepower inline-sixes, not to mention being super smooth and reliable. The underhood compartment is just as clean as the rest of the car. The car has been regularly serviced and remains in excellent running condition with plenty of new parts. Even the undercarriage is quite clean, and shows proper care and maintenance. This Datsun 280Z rides on devilishly handsome four-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in 195/70/14 Blackwall radials that will get you far with plenty of looks along the way.
This is a joy to drive and gives you a lot of performance for the buck. It’s also very rare and hard to find, with estimates suggesting that fewer than 1500 Black Pearl versions were produced. Don’t miss your opportunity to own this Japanese classic. Call today!
