It’s always great to see a classic getting some real use.
Cars were made to be driven, so when people wax theirs with a diaper (figuratively speaking) and never drive it on the road, that’s really too bad. Even classics need to really breathe and stretch their legs now and then. That’s why seeing Cici Muldoon really drive her 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS on English country roads is something majestic and beautiful.
The Ferrari, named Viola, is actually quite beautiful just sitting still, although as it’s driving it becomes even more dynamic. The purple paint really seems to shift in its appearance as the car goes from one area to another. A unique color scheme adds further to the fun of owning such a car.
Muldoon calls her Dino 246 GTS a pimpmobile, and that’s not inaccurate. After all, we know pretty much any mid-engine Italian sports car belongs in that category, because they have so much swagger there’s no hiding it. Instead, it’s better to not only acknowledge that but to be proud of that fact.
Perhaps one of the most amazing things about this video and the car is how Muldoon doesn’t shy away from driving her Ferrari in the rain. Avoiding that would mean not driving it much, a decision many who have Ferraris and other exotics routinely make. She is taking a risk driving the car on public roads, because accidents do happen, but not enjoying time behind the wheel obviously is a more painful option to consider.
Like many enthusiasts, Muldoon was raised in a family where cars were plentiful and celebrated. Her father was a car collector in Guadalajara, Mexico and raced some. That meant early childhood memories of car gatherings like concours and rallies. Now Muldoon has an impressive collection of vehicles, but it’s obvious Viola holds a special place in her heart.
