Here sits an Opel Manta, a car that has spent close to 40 years in a barn in deep hibernation. With 72,469 miles on the odometer, the car looks to have been enjoyed before it was stowed away for almost four whole decades. This Opel Manta barn find has been listed on eBay.
Seeing an Opel Manta on the road is a rare occurrence, although they do exist. The Opel Manta A, much like this one, was produced in the United States from 1970-1975 and was a direct competitor to the Ford Capri. Sold through Buick dealerships, the car was available in either a coupe or sedan (called the 1900).
This Opel was equipped with the “Luxus” trim option meaning that it came with a blue velour/ cordureoy interior, no sunroof, faux wood-trim panels, and white-wall tires. Under the hood is a 1.9-liter four-cylinder connected to a four-speed manual transmission.
This Manta A won’t just start right up after sitting for so long, and looking at the pictures, it will need some much-needed love to get it going. The interior is intact, but the seats need to be replaced and other parts of the interior are peeling. With a wash and a wax, you can see what you’re working with paint-wise, although it seems like it will require some attention as well unless you’re going for that trendy patina look. If the Opel Manta A is your thing, it is available on eBay with a starting bid of $800 with a reserve not met.
If looking for a unique project car to restore that isn’t your run-of-the-mill Mustang or Camaro, this could be the perfect candidate. Sure, it needs a lot of love to get it back to top-notch shape, but the hard work would be more than worth it when you have the only Opel Manta A in town.
