This is the unicorn Ford fans dream about.
Some cars are larger than life, with an aura about them you can just feel emanating just by looking at them. They always have big crowds around them at shows, and people snap photos of them like crazy during cruises. This 1969 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 is absolutely that kind of a ride, representing some of the best performance the Blue Oval put out during the golden age of American muscle cars.
Stuffed under the hood of this beast is a Cobra Jet 428ci V8 engine, which pushed beyond the Police Interceptor 428 used in the GT500 earlier. Bolted up to that is a nice four-speed manual transmission, so you get to double-clutch your way to victory on the drag strip.
That beautiful green paint job is perfectly accented by the factory white graphics, with everything looking to be in great condition. Both the nose and tail on this car are made of fiberglass, keeping the curb weight down. Those hood scoops aren’t just to look intimidating, because they’re functional. Hood pins were included from the factory and are still present.
While this car certainly was designed to go fast, Ford insisted on putting some nice amenities into the interior, so you’re not going to suffer while cruising around in this thing. Ford lifted items like the power steering, rear seat, and air conditioning from the Mustang GT. You also get nice black vinyl and comfortable bucket seats up front, black carpeting, and red Shelby floor mats. Everything is period correct and looks great, including the faux wood veneers on the dash and door panels.
With a new version of the Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 about to hit the market, interest in the original will be higher than ever. That means now is a great time to invest in this machine, which shows exceptional promise to continue appreciating in value for the long term. You can purchase this car through Saratoga Auto Auction.
