This Dodge Dart Swinger Edition with Mod Top was made as a part of a marketing program through Mopar.
This wild looking Dodge Dart is impossible to ignore, and that’s exactly what Dodge wanted when creating the unique Swinger edition. Not only is it an extremely rare optioned car due to the Swinger package, it’s one of the very limited amount of Mod Top cars ever even made.
The eBay listing shows a car that’s in excellent condition, both inside and out, and the seller claims that it’s one of just 50 made, and believes it to be one of two Mod Tops made with a 340ci engine.
As for this bizarrely detailed Mop Top was born from the idea Dodge had to try to attract female drivers to the car. Mopar offered the option on other cars in their line, like the ‘Cuda, Satellite, and Super Bee. The marketing gimmick didn’t quite land with women, and the strange floral design on ended up on a handful of cars.
The body is in great condition after being restored 10 years back, but the top is peeling, so the seller is including a reproduction top for the new owner to address the issue. On the inside, there is an absence of what is supposed to be matching seats, floors, and door panels, which was a specific feature for this specific color top, but found on the other Mod Top colors.
While originally rated at 275-horsepower, the 340ci V8 engine in this particular example should have a little more power, thanks to a slight overhaul that gave it a Comp Cam camshaft and .30 over pistons, plus the addition of an Edelbrock Edelb Thunder 1805 650cfm carb, Flowmaster mufflers, Monroe air shocks, Protorque starter, and transmission oil cooler.
The current Buy It Now price is listed at $32,000, and comes with the documentation to back up its authenticity. Even if floral tops aren’t exactly ‘your thing’, this is a great collector’s car due to its rarity.
