We're not sure which is hotter, those custom flames or that monster engine.
There are Chevelles, and then there is the 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396. There are flame paint jobs, and then there is this Chevelle's flame paint job. Put these two together, and Classic Car Liquidators has one of the coolest Chevelles you could imagine. And this amazing piece of '60s muscle is selling for $39,999.
First, that paint job. Even without the flames, the quality of black paint on this car seems incredible with a deep luster and a smooth finish. Black paint jobs are the automotive equivalent keeping a white shirt clean after eating a bowl of spaghetti, and this car pulls off the paint job flawlessly. Then there are the flames. Whoever painted these amazing flames that run along the hood, fenders and doors is indeed a true artist as you can't get a more realistic fire effect than what you see here. This paint job alone makes this Chevelle a show-stopper, but then there's the rest of the car.
No matter where you look on this car, the condition is immaculate. The trunk, underside and engine compartment are all represented well in the photographs, and it would be hard to imagine finding a specimen of this car in any better condition. There's not even any surface rust on the suspension components!
Under the hood, this 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 is said to still have its original, numbers-matching engine 396 CID V-8, which according to the air cleaner is the 350 horsepower version of this engine; the '68 Chevelle SS 396 also came with 325-hp and 375-hp outputs. This engine is backed by a four-speed manual with a Hurst shifter, and the cue-ball shift knob adds a nice touch to this interior. Vinyl bucket seats and the center console give the Chevelle a sporty cabin, and this car still has its factory radio and power antenna. About the only modification that seems to have been made on the inside of this car is the addition of the flaming floor mats.
