This is a luxurious drag strip dominator that’s been well-preserved.
While old American muscle cars are all quite collectible by today’s standards, this 1967 Plymouth GTX is special. Not only does it come with a super-potent and rare engine, plus tire-shredding performance, it also packs a healthy dose of luxurious appointments. It’s a strangely compelling combination and is being offered for sale through Future Classics LLC.
One of the main reasons to get excited about this Mopar hero is the factory-original 426ci Wedge V8 engine. It features dual Edelbrock carbs plus Hooker Super Competition headers and is hooked up to a 727 automatic transmission. This car rolls on American Racing wheels with Moroso Drag Special tires, so you get that sticky grip on the strip. With an 8.75 rear axle and dual aluminized exhaust, this is a car that won’t disappoint under hard acceleration, all the way to the finish line on the quarter mile. A transmission cooler also keeps everything running as it should, especially during hard pulls.
As you can clearly see, this Plymouth is all dressed up and has plenty of places to go. It looks plenty sophisticated with white paint and dual dark blue stripes on the hood and trunk lid. The judicious amounts of chrome, factory badging, and the hood ornament all look super fresh. A fiberglass hood is held down by pins, so they’re not just a fashion statement, plus a tach is mounted to the hood.
Continuing with the upgraded appearance is the blue vinyl interior, which features fancy embossing on the door panels and seats, plus a wood steering wheel. Other luxuries include a remote-adjustable driver’s side mirror,
Launched in 1967, the Plymouth Belvedere GTX quickly gained a reputation for being the “gentleman’s” muscle car. It was stylish and yet potent, offering an alternative to the decidedly Spartan muscle cars in that era. The 440ci V8 was standard, with the 426 optional, something a mere 720 buyers opted for. That means this particular Plymouth GTX is quite rare, and since it packs greater performance it’s incredibly desirable. It’s an excellent car to add to any collection and will make a solid investment.
