This gasser looks like it wants to do a wheel stand just sitting still!
Of all the classic racecars out there, gassers are the most unique and iconic. Designed with only quarter-mile speeds in mind, gassers are instantly recognizable with their big engines, raised front ends and solid beam axles. This 1965 Dodge Coronet being sold by RK Motors shows all the classic gasser cues, and this fully custom Coronet is ready to show or go!
This '65 Coronet started life as a plain-Jane four-door sedan with a slant-six engine under the hood. As you can tell, a lot has changed since this project commenced back in 2004 starting with shaving of two doors and an altered wheelbase. Helping to lighten the load even more, the fenders and bumpers are made from composite material, and the whole look was finished off with a custom paint job that pays homage to gassers from the '60s.
The heart of this car, though, is under the hood where the original slant-six was ditched in favor of a 511 CID Hemi big-block V8. This engine is backed by a three-speed automatic with a 2,500 rpm B&M stall converter, Dana 60 rear axle with Sure Differential and 4.10 gears, and dyno sheet shows that rear-wheel power is rated at 488 horsepower. Like the body, the chassis has been fully customized with the front end of a Dodge A100, and the rear axle has been positioned so that more than half of the car's weight is above the rear axle when the car is at rest.
Looking at this car in profile, this gasser looks like it wants to do a wheel stand just sitting still!
