This continuation car is 1 of just 50 that celebrates racing legend Bob Bondurant.
Last year, Shelby American introduced a limited-edition run of historically accurate continuation cars to celebrate the racing career of Bob Bondurant. These cars consisted of two different Shelby Cobras and a Shelby Daytona Coupe, and builder Superformance is only building 50 examples; chassis CSX2774 is now available for sale through Hillbank Motor Corporation, a certified Superformance dealer.
Inspired by Cobra chassis CSX2345 that Bondurant raced back in 1964, these Shelby Cobra Roadsters are set up like the original race car minus engine and transmission. That means a tube-frame construction with a 90-inch wheelbase, independent front suspension, leaf spring rear suspension and an aluminum rear differential housing with Dana 44 gears and a 3.54 gear ratio. These tribute cars are also equipped with period-correct gauges, a raked windscreen, 16-inch wood-rim steering wheel and, just like the racecars, there's even a plaque on the rear of the car to display the car's country of origin.
The Cobras are available in the light blue No. 3 livery that Bondurant ran at the 1964 Grand Prix de Spa or the dark blue No. 21 livery he ran at the Rossfeld Mountain Hill Climb, and there's also the choice of fiberglass or aluminum bodies. This 1964 Shelby Cobra CSX2000 289 FIA Bondurant Tribute continuation roadster listed for sale is a fiberglass No. 3 car, and it's being sold for $134,995. Included in the price of the car, buyers will get a free day of instruction at the Bondurant Racing School in Chandler, Arizona, and a cockpit cover is available as a $1,250 option.
Being a continuation car, each car will come with a serial numbered dash plaque, an engine bay chassis number plate and a Shelby serial number that will be documented by the Shelby Registry.
