1964 Dodge Polara Is A Red-On-Black Hardtop Beauty

A dreamy two-door hardtop.

If you want top-of-the-line, you’ve got to the right place. The Dodge Polara was initially introduced in the U.S. for the 1960 model year as Dodge’s top-of-the-line full-size car. When the Dodge Custom 880 debuted in 1962, however, the Polara took a step down to a more mid-size status. Nevertheless, the Polara remained spacious and luxurious in its various forms. The name Polaris comes from a reference to the Polaris star. This was a clever marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement and enthusiasm surrounding the Space Race in the early ‘60s. The Dodge Polara was a competitor to the Chevy Impala and Ford Galaxie 500.

This gorgeous red-on-black Polara is for sale by Midwest Car Exchange in Alsip, Illinois. Although the condition isn’t listed (and it’s subjective), the photos appear to show the car in very good condition. The red exterior paint looks vibrant and without any chips or major scratches. The color-matching stock steel wheels also seem to be in great shape without curb rash or any visible damage. The red shoes are wrapped in classic blackwall radial tires for that beefy appearance. The trunk is also clean and empty, except for two full-size spare tires fitted with wheels.

The interior features black vinyl seating that is free of unusual wear and tear. The dashboard, carpets, door sills, and panels are in good condition as well. The car is equipped with a stock AM radio, factory in-dash gauge package, and a tachometer mounted on the steering column. It also comes with power steering, an electronic ignition system, and automatic push-button TorqueFlite transmission.

This 1964 Dodge Polara is powered by a 383 cubic-inch 6.3-liter V8 engine. A custom header exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers adds some oomph to the eight-cylinder powerhouse, as well as music to the ears. This model also has an aluminum intake, chrome valve covers, open element chrome air cleaner, heavy-duty rear axle, and 24-inch heavy-duty Mopar radiator. In addition, it features a freshly rebuilt Holley dual-feed carburetor atop an Edelbrock high-rise intake.

As the name suggests, this Polara is quite the star. If you’re interested in having this two-door hardtop shine some light in your garage, contact MCE in Illinois today.
