This is essentially the original micro machine.
Many people have essentially forgotten American automaker Crosley, which has some surprising similarities with Subaru. As is evidenced with this 1950 Crosley Station Wagon, the design of the brand’s vehicles was a little different, something many owners rather enjoyed. They were also affordable and smaller vehicles, providing simple yet reliable transportation. Many probably didn’t think to keep their Crosley as a future collectible, making this one a special find if you’re looking for something unique to add to your garage. It’s also a screaming deal with a price set just beyond $10,000.
Wonderfully well-preserved, this blue little Crosley Station Wagon is a cool time capsule, giving everyone who sees it a glance at a past they might not otherwise know about or understand. The blue body is in fantastic condition, with straight panels and nice gaps. Nice chrome coats parts like the grille, bumpers, and that classic hood ornament and is in overall good condition. You’ll also note the propeller in the middle of the front fascia, adding the kind of detail you just don’t see on cars today.
Just like all Crosleys, this one has solid front and rear axles, leaf springs, and a body-on-frame construction, making it exceptionally tough and utilitarian for its rather small size. An efficient four-cylinder engine runs smoothly and is connected to a manual transmission, making this little wagon fun to drive around town. It has retained the factory 6-volt system, but the turn signals are aftermarket, presumably after the factory units were beyond repair. A small car only needs small wheels, and this one rolls on 12-inch steel wheels from the factory painted white, with chrome dog dish hubcaps.
Crosleys were definitely ahead of their time, foreseeing a future where fuel would become quite expensive and Americas would need utilitarian, smaller vehicles. While the company lasted, it attracted a number of fans such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Nelson Rockefeller, and Dwight Eisenhower. Today, you can own this well-sorted classic for a remarkable deal.
