This year helped to really put Auburn on the map.
This absolutely stunning 1931 Auburn 8-98A certainly is quite the sight to behold. A meticulous restoration has captured the beauty and elegance of the convertible coupe, which is one of the most desirable versions of this car today. We can thank Classic Car Club of America for providing the opportunity to appreciate this excellent classic.
For 1931 the entire Auburn line went through a redesign at the hands of Alan Leamy, who was a young designer and is considered a visionary by many Auburn enthusiasts today. As you can see, Leamy’s involvement with the Cord L-29 resonates with the Auburn 9-98A, which is certainly not a bad thing. In fact, this move ignited sales, making Auburns quite fashionable to own at the time, which is why 1931 models are quite popular among collectors. Accentuating the thoughtful body lines is a sumptuous Maroon. You’ll also note the rumble seat in the rear has been preserved, which is a fun feature to enjoy on a sunny afternoon.
A new Saddle leather interior presents quite well and provides the kind of comfort you want when motoring. When the weather doesn’t permit for open-air driving, the fresh tan canvas top not only provides coverage from the elements, it’s a faithful recreation of the original. In fact, it and the upholstery were created through ACD Museum templates, resulting in an accurate portrayal of why Auburn was considered one of the premier American luxury automakers.
Thanks to a recent comprehensive rebuild, the Lycoming straight-8 engine for this Auburn absolutely purrs. Full documentation of that rebuild are available, making this coupe ready for cruises and rallies far and wide.
Ownership of this fine automobile comes with quite a few perks. There are the obvious, like being able to cruise around in something elegant and breathtakingly gorgeous.
