It seems America can’t get enough of the legendary Pontiac GTO. With iconic styling, big-cube V-8s, and legendary performance, Detroit's first true muscle car remains one of the hottest tickets in the skyrocketing collector-car hobby.
After our 1969 GTO giveaway concluded earlier this year, muscle-car fans demanded another GTO giveaway. We spent months searching high and low for a classic GTO worthy of the Dream Giveaway Garage, and here it is—a 33,000 original-mile 1968 GTO convertible with a matching-numbers 400 ci V-8 and a four-speed Muncie manual transmission.
For many muscle-car fans, there’s no finer example of Pontiac’s line of muscle cars than the 1968-1972 GTO. Enter today and get ready to score this exceptional example from the GTO’s legendary first run.
Sold new in Doylestown, PA, back in June 1969, this grand-prize Cameo Ivory GTO convertible with a black interior found a home in warm and dry Texas before being acquired by the Dream Giveaway Garage. It underwent a top-notch frame-off restoration focused on maintaining its originality and low miles. Don’t expect reproduction pieces on this amazing GTO convertible. With such low miles, modern reproductions during the restoration were simply not needed.
Only 3,116 GTO convertibles were made in 1968 with a 400ci/four-speed combo, making this classic one of the rare Pontiacs from the original muscle-car era, as verified by Pontiac Historic Services.
Whether you cruise to the car show with the top down or keep that soft top latched for some stoplight-to-stoplight action, this four-speed GTO is one of the special supercars of the muscle-car era.
