A 37-Year Labor of Love on PcarMarket.
A beautifully restored 1973 Porsche 911S Targa, owned by the same Porsche specialist technician for 37 years, is now available for auction on PcarMarket. Representing the last of the original F-Body 911s, this rare gem, one of only 925 produced in its final model year, has undergone an extensive, decades-long restoration to its current pristine condition.
Originally finished in Sepia Brown, this 911S Targa now sports a striking red exterior. It features a 5-speed manual transmission, replacing the original Sportomatic gearbox. The vehicle is equipped with a stainless-steel rear bumper skirt, tinted glass, a brushed silver Targa bar, and round fog lamps. Other notable features include a removable black roof panel, chrome driver’s side mirror, and an Early 911S Registry badge. The seller meticulously stripped the car to bare metal, disassembled it, and then stored it before reassembling it in 2015. The Targa top was completely rebuilt by Dave Bradly of Colorado to factory specifications.
The interior has been reupholstered in factory-specified Beige leather, with new door pockets and carpeting from Stoddard. The original steering wheel has been re-covered, and the sun visors remain in excellent condition. Factory-optioned Sport Seats, air conditioning, a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, and custom coco floor mats enhance the cabin. The seller notes that all original gauges are fully functional, and the odometer, displaying 57,724 miles, is believed to show the car's actual mileage.
Under the hood, the original 2.4-liter flat-six engine has been meticulously rebuilt with new gaskets, bearings, timing chain, valve work, and fail-safe chain tensioners. The mechanical fuel injection system was overhauled by MFI Werks. The exhaust system remains original and unpatched, having been simply refinished. The gas tank and oil tank have been replaced, with the latter sourced from a 930 model. The suspension components have been powder-coated, with hardware refinished in zinc or cadmium plating. The brake calipers were rebuilt, and new bushings, wheel bearings, and master cylinders were installed.
This 911S Targa comes with a clean title, owner's manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, and all original Sportomatic parts. It's now being offered for auction on PcarMarket, providing a unique opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to own a piece of Porsche history, meticulously restored and maintained by a dedicated owner over nearly four decades.
