Tesla-Powered 1974 Porsche 911 Targa EV Conversion on Pcarmarket

A 1974 Porsche 911 Targa transformed with a Tesla S85 drivetrain blends vintage charm with cutting-edge EV performance.

In the world of automotive innovation, few projects capture the imagination quite like the Tesla-powered 1974 Porsche 911 Targa EV conversion. This stunning blend of classic design and modern electric performance is now up for auction, offering car enthusiasts a rare opportunity to own a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Originally finished in the factory-rare Salmon Metallic color, this 911 Targa began its life as a gasoline-powered icon of the 1970s. After being purchased by the seller in 2021, the car underwent an ambitious transformation to an all-electric powerhouse. The original running gear was replaced with a Tesla S85 rear drive unit, capable of delivering 500 horsepower, paired with a 32 kWh battery system split between the front and rear for optimal weight distribution. This electric upgrade ensures a thrilling driving experience, with performance adjustable through a custom iPad Mini control panel.

The car retains its vintage charm with exterior features like Rennline LED headlights, a brushed silver Targa bar, and 15-inch "Cookie Cutter" wheels wrapped in Michelin tires. Inside, the black leather interior has been tastefully modernized with 964-sourced seats, a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, and custom door cards. The rear seats have been replaced with a custom speaker enclosure, adding a contemporary touch without compromising the car's timeless appeal.

Despite its age, this 911 is now a technological marvel. The electric drivetrain includes an Elcon 3.3kW charger and BMS system, while suspension upgrades such as Turbo torsion bars, adjustable rear spring plates, and a ride-height adjustment ensure the car handles like a dream. According to the seller, the car is currently set to a "chill mode" of 180 horsepower but can unleash its full potential in "sport" or "ludicrous" modes for a truly electrifying experience.

This EV conversion, completed over three years during the pandemic, was meticulously crafted by Northrup EV Conversions and Thunder Bunny Racing in South Carolina. The seller, a Porsche enthusiast with over 40 years of experience, emphasized the project's uniqueness and practicality, citing a range of approximately 120 miles per charge under normal driving conditions.

With its blend of nostalgia and modernity, this Tesla-powered 1974 Porsche 911 Targa offers a glimpse into the future of classic car ownership. Now available for auction, it’s a must-see for anyone passionate about automotive innovation.
