This was the final year for the rear-wheel-drive 442!
Just about all survivor cars from the 1980s are growing in collectibility these days, but this incredible, low-mileage 1987 Oldsmobile 442 is definitely an investment-grade car. This G-body Oldsmobile represents the rear-wheel-drive Oldsmobile 442s, and this one will be up for auction this weekend through Vicari Auction.
Built for just three model years (1985-87), the Olds 442 featured an Oldsmobile 307 cubic-inch V8 with a four-barrel carburetor, a four-speed automatic transmission and dual exhaust. Other aspects that distinguished these 442s were the two-tone paint job with gold side stripes decals, gold-accented rally wheels and manual rear air shocks. The 1987 442 is easily recognizable from the previous two years due to the single-piece, composite headlight design.
This particular 442 is a true survivor with only 36,000 original miles showing on the odometer, and it had just one owner from new until 2019. What really makes this car stand out is the fact that it has the rare limited-slip rear differential option, and it's also lived an obviously pampered life wearing brand new BFGoodrich tires and coming with plenty of spare parts for any service or maintenance required.
The Vicari Auction Biloxi Spring event will run on April 17 and 18, and there will be 252 lots of classic and collector cars up for grabs. Bidding for this Oldsmobile 442 will close on Saturday April 18th, so make sure you're registered to bid if you want a shot at this '80s survivor.
