One-of-29 RUF CTR Yellowbird to lead Porsche auction April 26 in partnership with Air|Water and Luftgekühlt.
A rare 1989 RUF CTR Yellowbird, widely regarded as one of the most significant rear-engine supercars ever built, will headline Broad Arrow Auctions’ second annual Porsche Auction on April 26. The sale is held in partnership with the Air|Water and Luftgekühlt events, both of which celebrate Porsche’s air-cooled legacy.

Chassis no. W09BT0348KPR06023, one of only 29 Yellowbirds produced by the German tuner and manufacturer RUF, will cross the block as one of the most anticipated lots of the weekend. This particular example is further distinguished as the only Yellowbird known to be delivered with a bespoke lightweight interior, amplifying its rarity and collectibility.
“The Yellowbird is a cultural and mechanical icon, a car that pushed the limits of what a rear-engine platform could achieve,” Broad Arrow stated in a release. “Its appearance at auction is a generational opportunity for collectors.”
Originally based on the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2, the CTR was extensively modified by RUF with a twin-turbocharged flat-six engine producing approximately 469 horsepower, a reinforced chassis, and signature aerodynamic tweaks. The Yellowbird famously reached a top speed of 211 mph in 1987, making it the fastest production car in the world at the time.

Joining the Yellowbird in the spotlight will be a 1966 Porsche 906 race car, a 2012 RUF Rt 12 S with a factory-installed R-spec engine, and other performance-focused and concours-grade Porsche models. Many are sourced from the renowned Elfer Collection, known for its curated selection of rare air- and water-cooled Porsches.

Broad Arrow has opened registration for in-person, telephone, absentee, and online bidding. For more details, interested buyers are encouraged to contact the auction house directly at bid@broadarrowauctions.com.
The event promises to be a landmark gathering for Porsche enthusiasts and collectors, merging high-octane performance history with cutting-edge auction energy.
