Rare 1930 Ruxton Model C Roadster Heads to Mecum Auction

A 1930 Ruxton Model C Roadster, one of only seven Baker-Raulang-bodied examples, is set to cross the block at Kissimmee 2025.

The 1930 Ruxton Model C Roadster, a rare masterpiece from the Classic Era, will be among the highlights of Mecum’s Kissimmee 2025 auction on January 18th. Known for its advanced engineering and striking design, this Ruxton is one of just seven Baker-Raulang-bodied roadsters in existence, making it an extraordinary find for collectors.

Produced by New Era Motors, an offshoot of the Moon Motor Car Company, the Ruxton emerged in the late 1920s as a bold contender in the luxury automobile market. It featured pioneering front-wheel drive engineering, a revolutionary innovation at the time, credited to William J. Mueller, a renowned racer and engineer. With fewer than 100 units ever produced, and only 19 known survivors today, the Ruxton is one of the rarest vehicles of its era.

This particular example, bearing Chassis No. 10C72 and powered by a 4.4L inline 8-cylinder Continental engine, combines elegant design with groundbreaking technology. It boasts a 3-speed manual transmission, semi-elliptic leaf spring suspension, and a host of desirable features, including a rumble seat, dual side-mounted spares, and a rear luggage rack. The car’s Baker-Raulang coachwork enhances its rarity and sophistication, complemented by wide whitewall tires and full-size wheel covers.

First restored in the 1980s under the care of collector Bill Lassiter, the Ruxton went on to earn top accolades, including the AACA National First Prize and the CCCA Senior Premier award. It was also showcased at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, cementing its status as a premier example of automotive history.

Part of the Cliff Ernst Collection since 1995, this Ruxton has passed through the hands of several distinguished collectors, including SCCA co-founder D. Cameron Peck and the renowned Blackhawk Collection.

With its remarkable provenance, limited production, and timeless design, the 1930 Ruxton Model C Roadster represents an unparalleled opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike. This rare gem is expected to attract significant interest as it crosses the auction block without reserve.

This is one of over 4,500 vehicles being sold at Mecum Kissimmee. To see all lots and learn more visit Mecum.com.
