First-year Pontiac GTO updated with LS V8, six-speed auto, Wilwood brakes, and custom interior hits the auction block.

The car widely credited with kicking off the American muscle car era is back, but this time it’s packing modern muscle under its iconic skin. A 1964 Pontiac GTO, fully restomodded and LS-powered, is being offered without reserve from The Burnyzz Collection in Florida, blending the style of a classic with 21st-century engineering.

This reimagined GTO marks a dramatic departure from its original factory configuration. Gone is the 389-cubic-inch V8 that sparked a performance revolution. In its place is a 6.2-liter LS V8 sourced from a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS, mated to the donor’s six-speed automatic transmission with overdrive—bringing potent reliability and everyday drivability to this legendary nameplate.

Visually, the car makes a bold statement. Finished in a deep burgundy hue, the GTO’s classic hardtop silhouette is complemented by 18-inch US Mag wheels wrapped in performance Nitto NT555 tires. Stopping power comes courtesy of Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes, while headers and a dual exhaust system deliver the soundtrack.

Inside, the transformation continues with a completely custom brown leather interior, a bespoke center console, aftermarket steering wheel, and AutoMeter gauges integrated into a modern instrument cluster. The cabin manages to retain a vintage feel while offering all the amenities expected of a premium restomod.

Cooling is handled by an aluminum radiator with twin electric fans, ensuring the LS engine runs at optimal temperature whether cruising the boulevard or turning heads at a weekend show.

The 1964 GTO originally ignited the muscle car craze by sidestepping GM’s displacement restrictions. This restomod continues that spirit of rebellion—updating the rebel for today’s streets without losing its soul.

Now offered on Hagerty Marketplace, the car is said to be in excellent condition and comes with keys. Interested bidders are advised to review sales tax details, especially for residents of Arkansas, Mississippi, and West Virginia. See it here.
