Rare black-on-black Porsche 944 Turbo with 37,000 miles heads to auction with full documentation and recent service.
A well-preserved 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo, showcasing less than 38,000 original miles, will be offered without reserve at the upcoming Porsche Air|Water Auction, with an estimated value of $50,000 to $70,000.
Finished in non-metallic Black over a Black partial leather interior, the 944 Turbo represents one of the best examples of Porsche’s transaxle-era sports cars. Fitted with the desirable Touring Package and factory 16-inch Fuchs alloy wheels, this particular model stands out for both its originality and low mileage.
Introduced in 1986, the 944 Turbo offered a substantial performance upgrade over its naturally aspirated siblings. Its 2.5-liter turbocharged and intercooled inline-four engine produced 220 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque—impressive figures at the time. Coupled with a five-speed manual transaxle, the rear-wheel-drive coupe delivered exceptional balance and agility. At launch, it accelerated from zero to 60 mph in under six seconds, with a top speed exceeding 160 mph.
Originally delivered to Y.B.H. Sales & Service of Edgemont, Pennsylvania, the car was ordered new for $33,597. The Touring Package included a rear wiper, electric sunroof, cruise control, and a factory alarm system. Inside, it retains the period-correct Blaupunkt Monterey SQR 23 stereo and original upholstery.
According to the accompanying CARFAX report, the car moved from Pennsylvania to Illinois and later to South Carolina, where it was maintained by Peacock Automotive. A final round of servicing by Flat Edge Autoworks was performed in March 2025 to prepare it for auction.
Now offered with its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, original window sticker, manuals, tools, and accessories, this 944 Turbo is expected to draw strong interest from collectors seeking an unmolested example of Porsche’s turbocharged 1980s icon. See it here.
